How to Write Effective Job Descriptions*

It is very common that job descriptions in the workplace are outdated, outmoded, out of     touch with the reality of the workforce or quite simply, non-existent.  Employers have a hard time replacing them or creating them.  This seminar will address the issues of how to analyze the actual duties that an employee is performing and what you think they should be doing.  We will help you to define the position, understand the value from everyone’s perspective and understand how an effective job description will help you in the entire hire to fire process.  We will also review how creating job-match will help to lower your bottom line cost and reduce turnover in your company through the use of a proper, forward-looking job description.

Performance Appraisals*

Performance appraisals are, without a doubt, one of the most important tools that an employer has after the employee selection process.  The performance appraisal will let the employee know how well he/she is performing, but should also influence the employee’s future level of effort, activities, results and task direction.  We will discuss   the disadvantages of not having a performance appraisal system in place as well as how to implement a system, especially if you have not done so in the past or wish to change your current system.  This seminar is a perfect pairing with “How to write effective job descriptions.”  While it is not mandatory to attend the prior seminar, it is highly    recommended.

Substance Abuse in the Workplace*

Substance Abuse is a concern for employers.   Most drug users, binge and heavy drinkers, and people with substance abuse disorders are employed. The prevalence of substance use among workers is lower than the prevalence among the unemployed, but a sizeable number of employed individuals use drugs and alcohol.    This seminar will address which businesses are most at risk, the legal impacts from the   ADA, Drug FreeWorkplace Act and others, as well as the signs of drug use, and your responsibilities.

Termination: Keeping It Legal*

Termination is seldom an enjoyable task. However, it is a task that needs to be handled      properly to minimize bad feels and to avoid legal problems. Wrongful discharge claims can be very costly for a company.  We will discuss proper ways to terminate, reasons, laws associated with termination and how to conduct a termination meeting.

Effective Interviewing & Hiring Techniques*

Hiring qualified employees is crucial to a company’s success. This means hiring the best qualified person with excellent work habits and a great attitude. But, that is not easy to accomplish. There are several critical steps in the hiring and interviewing process, beginning with developing a job description. Then, the position needs to be advertised in some way. The next step is to compile the list of applicants and conduct the preliminary screening by reviewing the application or resumé. Once these steps are completed, the interview can be conducted. The final step of the process involves making the offer.  By using the techniques covered in this training session, you will be able to navigate the process to find the best employees and avoid lawsuits.
